He was Europe’s best goalscorer last season!
Ciro Immobile (30) scored 36 goals for Lazio Rome in Serie A and secured the Golden Shoe ahead of Bavarian star Robert Lewandowski (34 goals).
„What makes me particularly proud is that I won the Golden Shoe with two more goals. For me, he was always a role model,” Immobile reveals in an interview with SPORT BILD. „When it comes to the best number 9 in the world, the names Lewandowski, Suárez or Benzema always fall. Being named in one breath with them now and scoring more hits than these strikers is incredible to me.“ The ex-BVB flop, which did not manage at all during his time in Dortmund, is impressed by Lewandowski: „If I could vote for the Ballon d ‘Or, I would give it my vote.“
Immobile also explains why he had loading inhibition at his time in Dortmund: „I think I simply moved to Dortmund at an unfavourable time as far as the team is concerned. BVB won the championship with Jürgen Klopp in 2011 and 2012 and twice in second place thereafter. Maybe then the air was out.“ After his first round in the Bundesliga, he was penultimate with BVB. The result: “Young, foreign players are left out for the time being. I don’t think Jürgen Klopp saw any quality in me, but in this difficult phase he put more trust in players he already knew and had relied on so far,” Immobile says.
