The former German national football player Mesut Özil wants to fulfil his contract with FC Arsenal, which runs until 2021. This was made clear by Özil’s advisor Erkut Sögüt in an interview with the British newspaper “i”.
“He has 15 months left. Until then he will definitely stay at Arsenal,” said Sögüt. “He will stay until the end of his contract. There’s no chance of him leaving (before then).”
Due to Özil’s unstable performance, there has been much speculation in British media that the midfielder will leave London early. Under new Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta, however, the 31-year-old is back to playing regularly, having barely made any progress under his predecessor Unai Emery.
Sögüt reported that there are already offers. However, he did not want to rule out that Özil might stay in London even after the end of his contract. “Maybe he has a good end to the season and a good next season, and the club is offering him an extension,” he said.
