Sporting director Alemany and coach Xavi want to get rid of Frenchman
FC Barcelona have now officially announced that Ousmane Dembelé is to leave the club in the winter transfer window. The Frenchman’s contract expires in the summer of 2022.
It had been hinted at over the past few days, but now FC Barcelona’s sporting director has officially announced it via the club’s social media. “We have told him and his agents that he has to leave immediately because we want committed players and we hope that a transfer will happen before 31 January,” Mateu Alemany said. The sporting implication, agreed with the coaching staff, was that Barcelona would “no longer call him up”. Coach Xavi enjoys the full support of the club.
Barça published its squad for the cup match at Athletic Bilbao on Thursday morning, in which Dembelé is accordingly missing. His last appearance in the Blaugrana jersey was the Clasico against Real Madrid in the semi-finals of the Super Cup on 12 January (2:3 n.V.).
