Due to the coronavirus pandemic, German professional football is still in an exceptional situation. Normal operation is still unthinkable. But there will not be exclusively ghost games at the start of the season in just over two weeks. The return of fans could be regarded as “a very important and very positive sign”, said Christian Seifert, Managing Director of the German Football League (DFL) in Frankfurt am Main on Thursday.
Seifert: No distortion of competition
However, there will be no uniform regulation at the start of the season, as different regulations apply in the federal states. However, there was no dispute between the 36 clubs in the first and second leagues, Seifert emphasized. There could be no question of “distortion of competition”. “I would let go of the sharp sword of distortion of competition, but nobody pulled that today either,” stressed the DFL managing director.
